My New Favourite Word...

I was watching 'The Shawshank Redemption' the other day, and Andy insults the prison governer by saying, and I quote 'How can you be so obtuse?'. There is my favourite word...obtuse...I can use it so many times.

ob·tuse

Lacking quickness of perception or intellect.
Characterized by a lack of intelligence or sensitivity: an obtuse remark.
Not distinctly felt: an obtuse pain.

Snow Days

As most of you probably know, it has been snowing in England for the past two days. I am writing this post on my 2nd day off school as the school was closed again due to it. At the moment, snow is really coming down fast and it is sooooo pretty.

Yesturday, instead of doing school work I decided to build myself a snowman...

...his name is Mr Owen. His name originates from the hat really - it was my grandad's hat but he gave it to me - and my grandad's name is Owen = hence Mr Owen.

He took around 15/20mins to build and is around 4ft tall and is wearing my old school tie.

I also took some pictures of Indi enjoying the snow...

...and this picture below is of the front of our house yesturday morning...

My 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' Poster

So much better than my 'Mr and Mrs Smith' poster! And has more CGI than my 'Casino Royale' poster!

Enjoy!

My New Poster

After the success of my last poster of 'Casino Royale' - I decided to create another one. It isn't fabulous but it kept me busy and entertained!

Although, the quality isn't great, I think it's a good effort! Come on next week to see my next installment!

And as you can see the Malteser tube has been used once again!

I'm The Next Bond

Personally, I love the new style Bond. The producers decided that another change could make the films even more interesting...to have a girl Bond!

*Sigh*

Ok, this post is going to be purely non-Youtube as some bloggers whom I will not mention, ahem Cathy, think I am being paid on commission by Youtube. I am here to show the world that I can actually write a post without the use of Youtube.

On Saturday, very very busy. Firstly, my mum and I went to MK (Milton Keynes for anyone that didn't know)...to Christmas shop!! Great time! We actually had a route, unlike most times where we go to one side of the centre to the other, then back again, etc etc. We also only had 2, that's right 2, breaks! (One at Costa, one at McDs). I bought a load of presents for my famille and my friends at Ashlawn and of course some friends from church (Kirstie, Millie - presents are coming your way!).

Then we got back around 4ish after we missed a train by about 10 seconds...so we had to wait 45 mins for the next train. Anyway, we got back and we had to prepare for my Christmas party! I had invited some of my school friends round, so we prepared loads of food and entertainment! We played 'Mafia', and 'Consequences' - very very funny! Below are some pics!

(Roshni and Geri)

(Becky with pizza...which was yummy)

(Chocolate fondue...Frankie successfully fishing her strawberry out of it)

(Roshni being a doof)

(Geri helping herself to the bacon rashers)

I hope you liked the pics! The evening was great!

Jaffa Cakes - cake or biscuit - the ultimate question.

The Jaffa Cake...

...everyone has eaten one once in their lives - but it has stirred much controversy since the age old question 'Is it a cake or a biscuit?'. As I find Jaffa Cakes in the biscuit section in Tesco, so surely that means it is a biscuit, but is it??? Some argue it is a cake hence the name Jaffa Cake but I found this and decided to post it...because it's quite funny. Enjoy...

'Surprise surprise the Jaffa Cake is indeed a cake which is why they named called it that. Its base is made from sponge cake, not biscuit, they must have been thinking about that when they called it a Jaffa Cake.

Yes, yes, we are only to well aware of the theory that biscuits take up moisture when the go stale becoming limp conversely a cake looses it becoming hard, thus proving the Jaffa Cake to be a cake as its bottom is made of sponge cake as we already know. This is all well and good but has several noticeable exceptions such as the Fig roll and so cannot be relied upon. Better just to say its a cake.

Equally enticing but flawed is the idea that cakes contain eggs especially sponges like in the case of the Jaffa Cakes sponge bottom. Therefore biscuits simply are eggless baked things. Well that makes the Almond biscuit a cake so no luck there.

I know they sell them along with the biscuits, in packs just like biscuits, and McVities is a brand of United Biscuits (who also make cakes) but it’s still a small cake.

Some people are confused by the size and think that to be a cake something has to be quite big. Well that’s just a slur on those big bags of madeleines favoured by Marcel Proust or Mr Kiplings more diminutive offerings such his 8 packs of French Fancies.

Yes the VAT man wanted it to be a biscuit. That way it would fall by virtue of its chocolate coat into a category of products liable to VAT at the standard rate, i.e. luxury biscuits. As a cake however it is zero rated for VAT, no matter how luxuriant, much to the VAT man’s continuing annoyance. In fact Wifey and I once had a chat with ex Tory Minister John Knott who brought in VAT when the Conservative Government of the time took Britain into the Common Market. He recalled that the whole VAT introduction went surprisingly well expect for the Jaffa cake which caused all sorts of problems. In 1991 the matter went to a tribunal (number 6344 in case you were wondering) in which the VAT man argued that the Jaffa wasn’t a cake and so should not be exempt from VAT (VATA 1983 Sch 5 Group 1 excepted item 2), trotting out all the old arguments. McVities countered with all of the other old arguments plus a specially prepared 12 inch Jaffa Cake, which focused the tribunal’s attention on the sponge base. The tribunal concluded that, while the product also had characteristics of biscuits or confectionery which was not cake, it had sufficient characteristics of cakes to be a cake for the purposes of zero-rating. (The tribunal also determined that the product was not a biscuit.)

Finally despite all of this Wifey still thinks they are biscuits. '

I liked it! Did you?

My Name's Bond, James Bond.

I know this post is very soon after my last, but I had to do this as I have just seen 'Casino Royale' - my first full James Bond film I've seen!

I just want to say that Daniel Craig...

-who many people originally criticised
-who many people thought couldn't be Bond
-who many people thought doesn't look like Bond

...hit the role off magnificently! He is James Bond!

I've never seen in him anything else before, so it was like his film debut for me - and he was brilliant.

And this is the bad guy...

This guy is called Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen as many of you may have seen in 'King Arthur'

He plays an excellent bad guy, and his left eye weeps blood when he gets angry - it's cool!

Next Eva Green, the Bond girl. (On the left of the screen, right of Craig...James...007)

You may have seen her alongside Orlando Bloom in 'Kingdom of Heaven' - but she was really great in this. As this is film is technically the first in the 007 franchise, she is his first love. (Awwwww)

The other one is just a random girl (well, she does have an important role but that'll give away the story!).

Just to end, I have to say 'See It!' otherwise you will regret it - and below a still of the film.

Hope you see it soon - I reckon it'll be a big winner in the award season next year! You won't want to miss the film of the year!

Contemporary Actors and Actresses.

Over the past year, I have been introduced to 'Walk the Line' and 'The Phantom of the Opera', and I have noticed the number of actors and actresses who can actually sing wonderfully well!

Let's take Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum...

They starred together as the Phantom and Christine in the 2004 film 'The Phantom of the Opera'. However, little did I know that they could sing brilliantly! Emmy had been singing since she was 7, but Gerry had had no previous professionally singing career and yet he hit the Phantom's character off perfectly!

My next example is the multi-talented Kate Winslet. I had seen her in 'Titanic' and thought she was great in it. Then just the other day, I was on youtube and I found a music video called 'What If' - I clicked on it and it was Kate Winslet singing brilliantly!! It was amazing! Listen and watch for yourself!

Then we have tough guy Maximus, or otherwise known as Russell Crowe - he's a brilliant actor and I have now discovered his band and a few of his songs including one, 'Breathless'.

To top this all off, we have seen and heard the wonderful Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspooon! Brilliant singers who have a great chemistry together! Just watch this mateys!

Who knows, next year we may be hearing songs from the likes of Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts! The future will tell.

Bye!

First Blog of Many

Hello my friends,

For the next two years, I will be posting regularly (I hope) about my 6th form experiences. It is almost half term (next week, woo hoo!) - and my big sister is visiting for the weekend which will be great because I can finally show her 'The Lake House'!

Next week, I'll be dedicating Monday and Friday to homework. I have to write two essays - the first I have to do one essay for Mr Bradbury which is history homework - something about black civil rights in the US. The other one is for Mrs Headland (she's Welsh!) who teaches history also! - this essay is about the different groups of people who were grateful or ungrateful to Hitler during 1933-1939. Riveting stuff...really!

Anyway, for the last two years I had been studying for my GCSEs and in chemistry I was given (I have to say it) a truly terrible teacher (and no names will be mentioned). But I managed to get a C and pass. This year is a completely different story! I've been given the two best chemistry teachers in the school and I'm understanding everything which is a great feeling! Just today, I got 30/39 on a mock test which I was pretty happy with considering the marks I used to get.

I've been managing to stay sane during this first half term by setting my friend some challenges. The first one I set for her to do was to say the word 'underwear' to a teacher...she completed that task by going up to my human biology teacher and saying to her (holding a couple of pipecleaners) 'Do you think these look like underwear?' I had to give it to her, a great way of completing the task. Then my friend set me a task, which was to (before I gave an answer in class) pretend to push a button down and then say 'BUZZZZ' before giving my answer. I was actually able to do it!! I did it during Citizenship when my teacher asked us, 'Is Tesco or Asda better?' - and I pushed down the button, went 'BUZZZ' and then said 'Tesco!'. Even though Asda I have to say is probably better - they're selling big tubs of Ben and Jerry's for £2 a tub!!

However, if I am to stay in the 6th form I've got to keep up with my homework so I'll be off now to finish off my ICT coursework that I've been working on.

Good bye my little cherubs!
